LATEST ITS VIETNAM COVID-19 UPDATE (June 1st, 2020)

1. LATEST NEWS

On the extent of Vietnam’s latest E-visa update for tourists, we would like to shine some light for better clarification. We will share further updates later once officials confirm.

  • The country’s border remains closed until further notice.
  • Vietnam is making its e-visa pilot program part of its permanent visa policy from July. The pilot was originally set to expire on June 30th, 2020.

This does NOT change the status of any policies currently in place or mean that border is open in July.

  • Visa exemption policy for countries that previously held them remain the same, except the COVID-19 restrictions. The visa-exempt policy for these countries is in place until its expiry in June 2021. The recent E-visa news only touches the existing e-visa program.

2. VISA POLICY

as of May 26th, 2020 per Vietnam National Administration of Tourism)

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, Vietnam is not allowing entry or issuing visas to foreign nationals, from March 22 until further notice. Only Vietnamese nationals, foreigners on diplomatic or official business, and highly skilled workers are allowed to enter the country at this time. Anyone entering Vietnam must undergo medical checks and 14-day quarantine upon arrival.

Vietnam has officially suspended all visa exemptions for citizens of South Korea, Belarus, Russia, Japan, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, UK, France, Germany, Spain and Italy. Travelers who have entered the country on visa waivers or tourist visas are given automatic visa extension until June 30, 2020. Those who have entered Vietnam for business, visiting relatives, or purposes other than travel should contact a visa agent to address their visa concerns.
