Traveling to Vietnam has become increasingly easier over the years for international tourists. Besides offering visa exemptions to visitors of certain nationalities (including British, German, Dutch, and Swiss), most travelers can obtain their tourist visas to Vietnam online. This blog contains the most up-to-date information on how to get a Vietnam tourist visa in 2026 through eVisa and Visa on Arrival. For non-tourist visas, please refer to the Immigration Department’s instructions.
Ways to Obtain a Vietnam Tourist Visa
You can choose from the options below (ranked from most to least convenient):
- eVisa: This is the quickest and easiest way to obtain a Vietnam tourist visa. Simply head to https://evisa.gov.vn/, follow the instructions on the page to submit your application, pay your visa fee online, and wait for your result (the average waiting time is approximately 14 days after submission). eVisa holders are eligible to stay in Vietnam for up to 90 days.
- Visa on Arrival (VOA): For nationalities where eVisa is not available, VOA is the best way to obtain a tourist visa to Vietnam. We also recommend VOA for visitors looking to do transit tours while waiting for their connecting flight in Vietnam. VOA holders are eligible to stay in Vietnam for up to 30 or 90 days. The visa is issued upon arriving in Vietnam at an international port of entry instead of being pre-issued online. The visa fee is also paid at the airport. Travelers must obtain a visa letter through an authorized Vietnamese agency prior to proceeding to get their VOA. Make sure to contact us to arrange your client’s visa letter.
- Visa issued at a Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate abroad: Applicants submit their documents directly at a Vietnamese diplomatic mission in their home country. This is the most time-consuming option. Check the list of Vietnam embassies worldwide to find the closest consulate near you.
Regardless of how your clients obtain their Vietnam tourist visa, they can opt to add fast-track services (regular or VIP) to reduce waiting time at the immigration queues. Let us know if you’d like to add fast-track to your client’s package.
Application requirements
- Passport: Must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry.
- Photo: A digital copy of a recent 4x6cm photo (02 physical copies for VOA) with a white background, full face visible and no hat or glasses. Visitors applying for VOA can also have their photo taken at the port of entry for an additional fee of US$5.
- Supporting documents: Make sure your clients have access to their trip details including dates, flights, and accommodation to fill out their visa application.
Fees
- eVisa: US$25 for a single-entry visa or US$50 for a multiple-entry visa. Payment is non-refundable in case the visa is not granted.
- Visa on Arrival stamping fee: US$25 for a single-entry visa or US$50 for a multiple-entry visa. Please note that your authorized agency might charge a fee for arranging the visa letter. ITS’ clients opting for a VIP fast-track service will be waived the visa letter fee.
Visa Exemption
Vietnam offers visa exemptions to citizens of 39 countries. The most common passports like British, German, Dutch, and Swiss are eligible for visa exemption. For the full list of visa-exempted nationalities, please refer to the official list provided by the Immigration Department. Check under the “Ordinary” passport type to confirm your client’s eligibility.
Phu Quoc Island has a slight exception to the visa exemption rule. Tourists of all nationalities entering Vietnam at Phu Quoc will automatically be granted access for 30 days without needing a visa. However, if your clients plan on going to other cities in Vietnam from Phu Quoc, they will need to obtain a tourist visa unless exempted according to the list above.
Online Pre-Arrival Form
In April 2026, Vietnam’s Immigration Department started piloting a new online pre-arrival system for international tourists arriving at Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN). The system is intended to give travelers a smoother experience upon landing in Vietnam. Instead of filling out the arrival questionnaire in person at the port of entry, visitors arriving by flight to SGN can now file and submit their information online via this link.
Important: Until the scheme is implemented nationwide, tourists entering Vietnam through other entry points will continue to fill out this form in person upon arrival. This pre-arrival form is not a visa. All foreign visitors are required to fill it out (either online or in person) regardless of their visa exemption status.
